Ok, here is my question. Should I put this boost solenoid in and mate it up with the Tec3r? I think I've figured a way to set it up so that I can 3 different boost levels for 1st,2nd,and 3/4/5...

How? I have two shift cables that are right next to each other under my shifter in the center console. So I was going to align a reed switch (NC) and magnet along the two cables so that in 1st it would cut the power to the solenoid thus running off the wastegate spring (8psi). In 2nd another reed (NO) switch would align, close the circuit and tell the tec3r to use map 1 while the 1st reed switch closes allowing the tec unit to control the solenoid. In 3/4/5th gears the 2nd would open and run the 2nd programed map in the tec unit. I think I should be able to do this fairly well. Does anyone else have a better way to do this?

(NC) = Normally closed
(NO) = Normally open

I was also thinking I could build a circular metal piece that attached to the tranny that would rotate and align itself with different targets. But I would need to figure out how to build some kind of reading device that could turn it into different voltages.

Or I can get this: Its a traction control system for the SRT4's but I'm not sure if it will work with the tec3r. Its 600 bucks new. I think it works on the principal of reducing the spark energy or something to the plugs. Its not as challenging and like I said earlier I'm sure if it will work with the tec3r...

Here is the information from their website:

It will not work on your car if you have an ignition system which is completely CDI (i.e. you have a full CDI system with no box that converts from inductive to CDI).

Does this include the electromotive tec3r?

The TEC3r (and all other Electromotive products) have nothing to do with CDI. I'm always a little hesitant with anyting that is going to modify the ignition signal when in use with an Electromotive ignition.

This unit appears to acutally retard the timing to reduce power. This *MIGHT* be ok. The only problem I see is that it might mess with our current feedback circuit that we use to calculate dwell. If it does, you will burn up your coils as the system will always (or almost always) over charge the coils. Unfortunately, more technical detail would be needed to know if it does work.

There is another TCS system that I think will work but I can't remeber the name just now. That one works by messing with the fuel side, which a TEC3 would be far less sensitive to. I'll post again if I find it.

Here is the setup and wiring diagram for the TCS. I wouldn't think it would affect the tec unit but I honestly don't know. It hooks up right before the coil as seen in the photo. Anyway.. Is the feedback signal received when the spark event occurs?

Ok, I got an email back from the makers of the TCS- This is what he said:

It should work just fine. The TCS has circuitry built inside of it to simulate the flyback the PCM would ordinarilly expect to see from a coil. This is done to both prevent a CEL and to ensure that the PCM is seeing the pulse correctly to command the proper dwell. I can't see a problem running it on the TEC3r at all.

I'll be buying this product unless any of you guys can think of anything else that is a possible danger-

Be aware, we are NOT interested in the flyback voltage. We are looking at the current running through the coil as it charges before the ignition event. Another thing to remember is that we charge our coils to about 9amps. This roughly twice what the factory does with their coils. So the TCS box will need to be able to actually flow roughly 9 amps on each ignition event for our system to be happy.

You can try it, but your milage may vary.

wow, ok. I see. I'll shoot this to him and see what he says. I wish I could get you two on the phone... lol. It doesn't look like this is going to work. You mentioned another TCS system that cut fuel? Wouldn't that not be so savvy for turbo'd engines? Really need a system that would modify an ebc in relation to wheelspin-

Ok, jon.. I'm hoping you can make sense of this and give me some feedback as what my options are if I have any. I forward your last post to Neil at ND Performance and this is what he had to say.

"If there was a way in the software to fix the dwell time to 5ms, you would be all set. The stock SRT-4 is a fixed dwell system, and that is what the TCS is designed around, although it can handle dwells as low as 500us and as high as 10ms. As for the current, there is some sinking inside of it, but not 9A worth. The only thing I can think of is to add external resistors to sink the current"

I'll leave it at this unless you want to give Neil a call: 505-643-6100... It would be a large favor to ask and don't expect you to at all. I just have no clue what to ask or anything, otherwise I would have this handled. If you think its a lost cause, just tell me and I'll look toward another route-

rdeaner,
If you're still on the SRTForums, PM HybridKid and ask him about the issues he had with his TCS system (he has TEC3r) - I don't recall if he was using the NDE TCS unit or another, but he had a similar issue to what Jon had alluded to.

hey yah we installed the NDE TCS and we had the electromotive coils. Pretty much what happen after 5 minutes of use the coils messed up. We never figured out why so the TCS came off. NDE states that there should have not been any issue but there was.

yeah, thats what I came to find out. NDE says it works but its a no go... Thanks for the input though!!
